Not much happenin'.

I've been spending most of my time in the last week doing errands and reacclimating myself to life in MT. Today I made a big push and have most of my stuff stuffed into corners of my room, so the room is livable for the two+ more months I'll be living at home.

I also spend a lot of time watching and playing with the dogs. Bailey (our 25 lb Boston Terrier) is by far the most hilarious. She plays hard and is an incessant tease to the other two dogs. We've also recently discovered that she loves to play fetch, and she usually falls/rolls over when she gets to the ball. Meanwhile, Piper the labrador (who is NOT a retriever) watches her and wonders what the appeal is. He's sort of the big-teddy-bear type of dog. Scrappy is mostly amusing to watch when Bailey is teasing her, but she also makes a good foot warmer.

On a completely different topic, mudslides over Memorial Day weekend destroyed what I consider to be one of the most scenic highways in the world (okay, so I'm a little biased!). Click here to see photos of the construction of this highway that opened in 1936; click here to see photos of the damage caused by the slide.

As I contemplate this natural disaster - which was not fatal for anyone - I continue to be amazed that mankind can be so presumptuous as to think that "progress" for our race is unlimited. We are completely helpless in the face of tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, etc, etc, etc. Our only proper response in the face of such catastrophes is to recognize that the living God is above his creation. Remember, the disciples asked of Christ after he calmed the storm, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!" (Mark 4:41).

As one of my favorite songs reminds us, we can be calm in the midst of a storm because
The wind and waves shall know
The voice who ruled them while he dwelt below
("Be Still My Soul")

I've spent a lot of my time at home playing with my dog as well. Most of the time he acts like he's one hundred years old, just lying around the house sleeping. But at the sight of his Buddy Glow Ball, he returns to puppyhood. It is good that God gave us dogs.

Glad that you made it back Molly and that you are enjoying time at home.
