The Bobblehead and the Compass

Think of a car driving on a curvy mountain road. There are two items on the dashboard: a bobblehead and a compass.

With each turn or bump, the bobblehead shakes and wiggles wildly. It is designed to exaggerate the motion of the vehicle and has no focal point to remain steady upon.

The compass, on the other hand, is designed to remain steady on one point, and that one point alone. Yes, a bump will shake it up a bit and it will take a few moments to regain its bearings. But its magnets will alwyas pull it northward again.

If you are in Christ, you are designed to be a compass, not a bobblehead. You have a focal point, so though bumps and turns may shake you up a bit, your motion is not controlled by your situation. You are rooted in Christ, so let the magnets of his grace pull you in the right direction no matter what hits you: to Him.

That's a great example! Thanks for the reminder. I think sometimes we forget we are a compass and not a bobblehead and let our bumps and turns direct our actions. I'm glad we are truly a compass.

Did you write that yourself? You should submit it to a daily devotional or something. I really like it - seriously.

Also, I just wanted to note that you have me in your blogroll TWICE. Now, I know you love me, but I was wondering if it was perhaps a mistake? I love you!

I DID write it myself. That's one of the things that comes of doing a lot of driving when one feels like a bobblehead.

Addie, I was tempted to say that I DO love you that much, but what would that say when I took you down to only once on my blogroll? Thanks for pointing it out ... hopefully making a mistake like that hasn't made me fall TOO far off your pedestal :)
