Not knowing what to say to myself (which is actually a bit unusual), I did what any person my age would do: I googled "biblical counsel when you're having one of those days" Oh, the common grace of Google!
Coincidentally (or not so much), the first link was from Girl Talk, written by the women in CJ Mahaney's family. Apparently they are a group who practice what their father preaches!
This is part of what Janelle wrote in her post "One of Those Days":
And then I read this, “We are TODAY accepted in the Beloved, TODAY absolved from sin, TODAY acquitted at the bar of God. Oh! Soul-transporting thought.” Mr. Spurgeon strikes again. My grumbling heart stood rebuked. Today is one of those days--one of those amazing days, which find me standing before the bar of God acquitted from all of my sin because of the death of Jesus Christ on my behalf. Yes, Mr. Spurgeon, this is a “soul transporting” thought.
Regardless of what this day holds for you, may the truth of your acceptance in the Beloved reign first in your heart.
"Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? [GOOD question!] Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God." Psalm 42:11
Thanks so much, M. My "one of those days" is overflowing into more then just one, but your post helps. Thanks for the encouragement.
Thanks, Molly. I've been having more of "those days" since my family left. Amazing how the gospel is for every day.
Addendum: isn't google marvelous! :)
Andrea - I read about your 'one of those days' yesterday and I actually thought about you while I was contemplating MY day. Hope you're able to keep speaking the Gospel to yourself ... even if your "day" stretches out longer than you'd like (Isn't that one of the reason dogs are great -- they never seem to have 'off' days!)
Melodee - Sorry to hear about your "ones of those days." Isn't the web marvelous, though -- that we can encourage each other even though we're on opposite sides of the big pond!
Oh, I know what you mean, Molly! I'm having some of those days, and I've been trying to take Lloyd-Jones' advice, too. Thanks for sharing what you found. It encouraged me.
